Thilo Reffert

Thilo Reffert studied medicine for several semesters before founding a theatre group, studying theatre studies and modern German literature and working as a dramaturge and theatre teacher. Reffert began writing plays in 2001. His plays have been performed at Theater der Altmark Stendal, Saarländisches Staatstheater and the Ohnsorg Theatre, among others. The classroom play “Flasche leer (Empty Bottle)” was especially popular.

At the same time, Reffert works for radio as a radio playwright, and wrote, among other things, a crime series about the lovable chaotic Tom Felski. He was the author of the radio version of Tatort for MDR from 2009 to 2019. In 2010 he was awarded the most important German radio play prize, Hörspielpreis der Kriegsblinden.


In 2010, his first children’s book Nina und Paul was published. The radio play version of “Nina und Paul” (production: Deutschlandradio Kultur) was awarded the German Children’s Radio Play Prize. The children’s book “Australien, ich komme (Australia, here I come)”, published in 2012, was named Book of the Month for June 2012 by the German Academy for Children’s and Youth Literature. His classroom drama Nina und Paul was awarded the Mülheimer KinderStückePreis in 2013. He lives as a freelance author on the outskirts of Berlin.
For JES he wrote the play “Wir so: Welt retten” as a commissioned work.
