Right-wing extremism and right-wing populism sadly are no new, upcoming trend in Germany. The networks and structures are imbedded deeply in our society and our political system. Most of the time those developments stay hidden and unnoticed for a long period of time. With “Deep Inside” we follow a trail of those networks and ask ourselves: why are they existing?
We meet up with a family in lockdown. Franziska S. and her brother Franz S* are dammed to home-schooling and feel trapped at home. A seemingly harmless homework assignment takes the family on a road through the never truly denazified and still conflicted parallel society of German middle class. They get lost in a mix of different chat groups, German sagas and myths, Fake-News and conspiracy theories. Suddenly other players appear on the map – is there a way out of the patriarchal household? A storm emerges on the horizon – the argument within the family grows bigger and seems to be on the verge of escalation. The homework assignment has grown into a matter of life itself, maybe even of survival. Who is going to win this Battle Royale? Who will be the last one standing?
