A tale about growing up in a pinkblue world

Walking through a shopping mall one doesn’t need much time to find the way to either the girl's or the boy's section. A child’s world seems to consist of only two drawers: a pink one full of barbies, hairpins, and horses and a blue one with cars, balls and toy blocks.

The question of our gender defines us like no other. Not only toys, clothes and bathrooms are separated on gender but also preferences, skills and character traits. Being loud, wild, and untamed vs. being nice, pretty and behaved.

How can we find our way in this world full of expectations? How do I know what I like and why? Are my choices typically or atypically and does that matter? How can we learn to be brave and dare to go our own way?

Director Hannah Biedermann and the JES-Ensemble developed a collage of diverse gender images and invite the audience to a party of difference. They work with irritation as well as with humour to shine a light on the given images and put a question mark behind known gender categories.
