Hannah Baumann, born 1991, will finish working as a dramaturge at Theaterhaus Jena in 2024. She studied dramaturgy at Leipzig University of Music and Theatre and Spatial Strategies at Wei\u00dfensee Kunsthochschule in Berlin. She has worked on projects at different theatres such as Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, HAU Hebbel am Ufer Berlin and Ku\u0308nstler*innenhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt and was the curatorial assistant for the Performing Exiles Festival (curated by Matthias Lilienthal with Rabih Mrou\u00e9). In 2023, together with Christina Jung, she staged the play \u2018nu\u0308chtern (monsters dancing in the dark)\u2019 at Staatstheater Augsburg, a research project about alcohol addicts\u2019 loved ones. She has also given workshops and worked as a conceptual consultant for various political education associations in the field of anti-discrimination (including 7xjung). She is also a Muay Thai trainer for women and non-binary persons. In 2019, she received the Elsa Neumann Scholarship from the State of Berlin to support young artists. She was the dramaturge and part of the writers\u2019 collective for \u2018Die Hundekot-Attacke\u2019 (director: Walter Bart), which was invited to the Heidelberger Stu\u0308ckemarkt and the Berliner Theatertreffen. The team also received the 3sat Theatre Prize for its collective authorship. \u2018A good murder, a real murder, a beautiful murder?\u2019

Marie, Louise, Ophelia, Juliet, Desdemona: classical theatre literature is full of female murder victims. Their common cause of death: patriarchal violence. These texts, mostly written by men, centre perpetrators. Following an inner logic of social pressure and emotional despair, their deeds seem inevitable or even romantic. This is a pattern that is still reflected in reporting on gender-based violence today: Violent acts are labelled \u2018family tragedies\u2019, \u2018jealousy dramas\u2019 or \u2018acts of desperation\u2019 instead of calling them by their name: Femicides, murders of women* because of their gender or gender identity.

JES sets out to develop a theatrical counter-narrative. Director Pina Bergemann used to work in play clubs at JES, then made a career as an actress and was most recently seen at the Theaterhaus Jena in the multi-award-winning performance \u2018Die Hundekot-Attacke\u2019. After two solo evenings, which she also helped develop, she is now taking on the role of director.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
