Education<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was born in Darmstadt in 1967 and grew up in Wolfenb\u00fcttel near Braunschweig. After a traineeship, several years as a sports editor at the Goslarsche Zeitung and a trip around the world, I studied dramaturgy at adk Ulm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I then worked as a dramaturge and partly as a theatre teacher at the children’s and youth theatres in Heidelberg (zwinger3) and Mannheim (Schnawwl) as well as at Nationaltheater Mannheim and in the festival management of the International Schiller Days. In addition to my work at JES, I am also a lecturer (including at Stuttgart Drama School), curator and author. Recent world premieres include \u2018Artus!\u2019 at the open-air theatre in Altusried, \u2018Auf \u00d6tzis Spuren\u2019 at Theater des Kindes in Linz and \u2018Das Ministerium der Einsamkeit\u2019 at Theater an der Rott in Eggenfelden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have been a dramaturge at Junges Ensemble Stuttgart since 2006 and was artistic director of the international festival BRIGHT VIEW together with Brigitte Dethier until 2022. I was also managing director of the Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg Youth Theatre Prize for JES for ten years and one of three spokespersons for the working group of children’s and youth theatres in Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg for five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actually, everything was as it always was. Balthasar spent almost every afternoon with his grandmother Monika, until his parents stopped immersing themselves in work and came to pick him up. But this time they were going to go away on a work trip, so this time Balthasar would spend the night with Grandma Monika ecause Balthasar is with his grandmother so often, he also knows her little secret: her forgetfulness and the trouble she has finding the right words, not only when doing crossword puzzles together.

On this evening, however, Balthasar notices that his grandmother's memories and connections suddenly disappear from her mind more and more often. What happens when she forgets herself at some point? Who, then, was Grandma Monika? Together, grandmother and grandson set off in search of her memories and biographical traces. The kitchen becomes the parcourse of a long and eventful life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following stimuli appear in places<\/strong> in the production:

- Use of loud music, an electric guitar, microphones and kitchen appliances used as musical instruments.
- Rapid light changes, colorful and dim light and a lamp that flickers. In one scene, circles of light move across the stage.
- A curtain of balls hangs around the stage, making noises and glittering in the light.
- At one moment, rose petals are thrown into the air.
- An actress shows great emotion and throws a cup on the floor in one scene. The cup breaks.
- The audience sits on wooden benches throughout the performance and should keep quiet.

Science has worked wonders: genetic research, early diagnosis and strict hygiene laws prevent the outbreak of any disease. In the wake of medical progress, common sense has led to a political system that protects its citizens from physical suffering. The price for safety: control and complete surveillance.

Until recently, the young biologist Mia Holl was an unquestioning part of the system and defended it against her rebellious brother Moritz. But then he was convicted of murdering a woman after a DNA test and killed himself in prison. Mia is thrown off track, doubts her brother's guilt, blames herself, neglects sports and nutritional reports and is targeted by the judicial system. A smoked cigarette is judged as abuse of toxic substances and is seen as endangerment of general welfare. The discussions in court and in the media escalate and Mia becomes the figurehead for the resistance.<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

- There are several screens to the right and left above the stage that show one or more videos at the same time. Sometimes a video is played several times on different screens. In addition, large videos are played on a white surface in the centre of the stage.

- The shots in the videos sometimes change quickly. It looks as if they are flashing.

- There is fog.

- The actors enter and leave the stage via a sliding wall at the back of the room. Their shadows can be seen before they enter the stage. There are several entrances and exits.

- An actress smokes on stage, accompanied by typical cigarette smell.

- The audience should be able to sit quietly throughout the performance so that they can follow the play well. The benches are made of wood.

Raising your voice, making it heard What happens when this basic right is suddenly lost? Two actors have founded a state to defy a monstrous danger and invite children to become its first citizens.

Together they dive into an adventure of intergalactic proportions, playfully testing social coexistence and determining who decides, and thus take on the small issue of saving the world.

Playfully and embedded in an exciting story, the children experience the encouraging feeling that they are a serious part of society.That it is worthwhile to raise one's own voice - and to fight for this fundamental right.

A young man living the dream of many young people: Becoming an astronaut. He tells us stories about the hardships of the selection process. About the experience of weightlessness, survival training under extreme conditions. About the analog mission in a cave to train 2000 meters below earth for the next moon landing. About looking back at our vulnerable blue planet and the feeling of humility before life.

But there\u2019s something else. Something that is increasingly upsetting the young man. Something that has to do with his own youth. With guilt that has never been atoned for and that haunts him, with brutality and loneliness. And with a classmate who even then, years back, dreamed of being able to fly. 

Gradually it becomes clear: the budding astronaut was involved in a serious case of bullying (without the word being mentioned throughout the play) as a juvenile delinquent, in the very room where he now stands again.

They are supposed to be best friends. For four years they experienced and did everything together, even had the same schoolbag. But now everything is different: the way to school is longer, the building is much bigger, teachers and classmates are new, students on the playground are no longer all smaller, but all bigger again. And challenges grow with the number of different subjects.

Soon they notice that they hardly have the same interests anymore. More and more often, they don't understand each other, with arguments building over time between the two friends \u2013 that is, if they are still friends at all. They don\u2019t talk much anymore That\u2019s difficult enough as it is, but then there\u2019s the school trip that is set to last several days. Here, they can no longer avoid each other. Rather reluctantly, they have to set off together, on an unexpectedly adventurous forest excursion.

With theatre at school the classroom becomes the stage: with our two new ensemble members Estelle and Lola we are developing a mobile play about friendship and the challenges of a new beginning at the intersection between primary and secondary school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They agreed on one thing from the beginning: they would definitely find something better than death. But what did the donkey, the dog, the cat and the rooster actually find after they chased the robbers out of their hut? Just a protective roof over their heads? Or a new home? Or community? How do you live together when you are so different and have different needs?

Because music almost always helps, the four \"city music animals\" take Donkey by their word and grab microphones and instruments. The stories are their own, but what kind of music is appropriate? And does it rather take a good choreography, a fresh band name or simply lots of practice to actually make a name for oneself?

The JES Ensemble tells the Brothers Grimm fairy tale from a special perspective, with lots of live music.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Notes on accessibility<\/strong><\/h2>
\n

In the audio description<\/strong> the stage set, the costumes and the visible course of the action are described for people with visual impairments. The descriptions are spoken live during the performance and can be heard by the audience via transmitters with headphones.

For people with visual impairments, we regularly offer screenings with tactile guidance and audio description <\/strong>an.

The tactile tour<\/strong> takes place in the stage area approximately one hour before the performance begins. Here you can feel parts of the stage set, props and costume pieces. The actors introduce themselves and describe themselves. In addition, particularly visual scenes of the production are described.

For this performance, JES will be loud, colourful, emotional - and embarrassing. Because shame is the theme of the first musical in JES history. With everything that goes with it: emotional songs, a pop band, a large cast, dance choreography and a love story.

Even if it's not talked about much, shame is a defining issue in many people's everyday lives. To find out more about it, we send four young characters to an art museum. Their task, set by the school, is to enter into a dialogue with a work of art. By attempting this (more or less seriously), they not only encounter very different perspectives on ways of life and boundaries of shame. Above all, they are confronted with themselves and then also with the shamefully hidden secrets of their classmates.

In cooperation with the Popakademie Mannheim, which has put together a pop band consisting its students, and the PH Ludwigsburg, whose students are in charge of developing this educational programme.

With audio description and tactile tours<\/strong>

With audio description, the stage set, costumes and the visible course of the action are made accessible to people with visual impairments via live description. The explanations and descriptions are spoken live during the performance. The commentaries are received via transmitters with headphones. The audio description will be in german.

The tactile tour takes place in the stage area approximately one hour before the performance begins. Here you can feel parts of the stage set, props and costume pieces. There is a tactile model in which the stage set is modelled. In addition, particularly visual scenes of the production are described.

- The actors enter and leave the stage through the set. They go to the gallery. The gallery is above the stage and looks like a balcony. The actors disappear and appear through doors at the back of the stage.

Es wird laut im JES, bunt, gef\u00fchlvoll \u2013 und peinlich. Denn Scham ist das Thema des ersten Musicals der JES-Geschichte. Mit allem, was dazu geh\u00f6rt: gef\u00fchlvollen Songs, einer Pop-Band, einer gro\u00dfen Besetzung und Tanzchoreografien.

Auch wenn wenig dr\u00fcber gesprochen wird, ist Scham ein pr\u00e4gendes Thema im Alltag vieler (junger) Menschen. Wie beeinflusst das gesellschaftliche Konstrukt von Scham unsere Pers\u00f6nlichkeitsentwicklung? Welche Auswirkungen hat Scham auf den Umgang mit K\u00f6rper und Sexualit\u00e4t?

Um das herauszufinden, schicken wir vier junge Figuren in ein KI*-gesteuertes Museum. Ihre von der Schule hinterlegte Aufgabe ist, mit einem Kunstwerk in Dialog zu treten. Indem sie dies (mehr oder weniger ernsthaft) versuchen, begegnen sie nicht nur sehr unterschiedlichen Sichtweisen auf Lebensformen und Schamgrenzen. Sie werden vor allem mit sich selbst konfrontiert und dann auch noch mit den schamhaft verborgenen Geheimnissen ihrer Mitsch\u00fcler*innen. Schwierig genug, aber noch einigerma\u00dfen zu bew\u00e4ltigen, solange es im gesch\u00fctzten Rahmen ausgetestet und ausgelebt wird. Aber dann droht die Ver\u00f6ffentlichung der eigentlich privaten Erkenntnisse durch eine interaktive Video-Installation.

In Kooperation mit der Popakademie Mannheim, die aus ihren Studierenden eine Pop-Band zusammengestellt hat, und der PH Ludwigsburg, deren Studierende das Vermittlungsprogramm entwickeln.

F\u00fcr Menschen mit Sehbehinderung bieten wir bei \"SHAME - The Musical\" regelm\u00e4\u00dfig Vorstellungstermine mit Tastf\u00fchrung und Audiosdeskription <\/strong>an.

Etwa eine Stunde vor Vorstellungsbeginn findet die Tastf\u00fchrung<\/strong> im B\u00fchnenraum statt. Hier k\u00f6nnen Teile des B\u00fchnenbildes, Requisiten und Kost\u00fcmteile ertastet werden. Die Schauspieler*innen stellen sich vor und beschreiben sich. Au\u00dferdem werden besonders visuelle Szenen der Inszenierung beschrieben.

Bei der Audiodeskription<\/strong> werden u.a. das B\u00fchnenbild, die Kost\u00fcme und der sichtbare Handlungsverlauf f\u00fcr Menschen mit Sehbehinderung per Live-Beschreibung zug\u00e4nglich. Eine junge Frau als Nachtw\u00e4chterin in einer Verpackungsfabrik, die kurz davor steht, endg\u00fcltig stillgelegt zu werden. Eine r\u00e4tselhaft-morbide Umwelt. Dazu ein Nachtw\u00e4chterkollege, der einst einen Mann vom Himmel hat fallen sehen. Die Frau ist auf der Suche nach einem Wolf, der gesichtet worden ist, aber mehr noch auf der Suche nach sich selbst und nach einer Geschichte, von der sie Teil werden k\u00f6nnte. Die bilderstarke Vermessung einer (Innen-)Welt, zwischen utopischen M\u00f6glichkeiten und wachsender Selbstisolation.

\u201eHier ist noch alles m\u00f6glich\u201c ist der mehrfach ausgezeichnete Deb\u00fctroman der Schweizer Literatin Gianna Molinari. Ihn hat sich Julia Skof als Vorlage ausgesucht f\u00fcr ihre erste Regiearbeit am JES. Sie untersucht in ihren Inszenierungen die Entstehung von Bildern \u2014 von fremden, unbekannten, aber auch denen, die wir sehen, und \u00fcber die wir sprechen, ebenso wie denen, die wir uns einbilden. Welche Grenzziehungen t\u00e4tigen wir, um das zu bewahren, woran wir glauben? 

Julia Skof studierte Philosophie und Soziologie an der Universit\u00e4t Basel und Regie an der Z\u00fcrcher Hochschule der K\u00fcnste. Ihre Abschlussarbeit \u201eAntigone\u201c wurde an das K\u00f6rber Studio f\u00fcr Junge Regie ans Thalia Theater in Hamburg eingeladen und erreichte die Shortlist.

Eine Frau h\u00e4ngt in der Luft, was hat das zu bedeuten?<\/strong>

Am 15.10.2022 hat das Theaterst\u00fcck \u201cHier ist noch alles m\u00f6glich\u201c seine Premiere im JES gefeiert.

Ein St\u00fcck, welches Kopf und Geist auf Trapp h\u00e4lt.
Eine Geschichte, die vielleicht eine Vision erz\u00e4hlt, aber vielleicht auch nicht?
Eine Geschichte, die viele Interpretationsm\u00f6glichkeiten offen h\u00e4lt.

Als ich in den kleinen Theatersaal gegangen bin, prasselten viele verschiedene Eindr\u00fccke auf mich ein.
Ein B\u00fchnenbild, das bereits die ganze Aufmerksamkeit auf sich zieht und eine Frau, die in der Luft h\u00e4ngt.

Was hat das zu bedeuten?
Das war die erste Frage, die mir in den Kopf kam.

Ein Theaterst\u00fcck nach einem Roman, der auf die B\u00fchne gebracht und sehr gut gespielt wurde und eine Geschichte erz\u00e4hlt, die sehr viele unterschiedliche Themen behandelt.

Ein bisschen Politik, ein bisschen Spannung und ein bisschen Nichtwissen, wo man hingeh\u00f6rt.

Ein Wolf, den man nicht so richtig zuordnen kann, Tonaufnahmen, die einen zwingen, sich auf das Organ Ohr zu konzentrieren und pl\u00f6tzlich muss man sich wieder auf die Augen konzentrieren.

Das ganze St\u00fcck war mitrei\u00dfend und sehr toll gespielt.

Die Autorin, die auch anwesend war, kam mit einem breiten Grinsen aus dem Saal und war sehr begeistert!

In Einfacher Sprache<\/strong><\/h2>

In dem St\u00fcck geht es um eine junge Frau, die als Nachtw\u00e4chterin in einer Verpackungsfabrik arbeitet. Das hei\u00dft, sie passt nachts auf die Fabrik auf. Die Fabrik soll bald f\u00fcr immer geschlossen werden. In der Welt in dem St\u00fcck gibt es viele R\u00e4tsel. Die Welt zerf\u00e4llt.

Die junge Frau hat einen Kollegen. Er hat einmal einen Mann vom Himmel fallen sehen. Die junge Frau ist auf der Suche nach einem Wolf. Der Wolf wurde von anderen in der N\u00e4he der Fabrik gesehen. Die junge Frau sucht auch nach sich selbst. Und die junge Frau sucht nach einer Geschichte, von der sie Teil werden k\u00f6nnte.

In dem St\u00fcck gibt es viele Situationen, die die Innenwelt der jungen Frau zeigen und untersuchen. Da sieht man traumhafte M\u00f6glichkeiten, was in der Zukunft passieren k\u00f6nnte. Aber man sieht auch immer mehr die Einsamkeit, die die junge Frau sich freiwillig ausgesucht hat. \u201eHier ist noch alles m\u00f6glich\u201c ist der erste Roman der Schweizer Autorin Gianna Molinari. Der Roman hat mehrere Preise gewonnen. Die Regisseurin Julia Skof hat den Roman als Vorlage f\u00fcr ihre erste Theaterarbeit am JES ausgesucht. Julia Skof untersucht in dem St\u00fcck, wie Bilder entstehen. Sie untersucht fremde und unbekannte Bilder. Und Bilder, die wir sehen, \u00fcber die wir sprechen. Und sie untersucht Bilder, die wir uns einbilden. Wo ziehen wir eine Grenze, wenn wir etwas bewahren wollen, woran wir glauben?

Deswegen findest du hier sensorische Reize, die in \u201eHier ist noch alles m\u00f6glich\u201c stellenweise vorkommen. Vielleicht sind sie gut zu wissen f\u00fcr dich oder jemanden, der mit dir die Vorstellung besucht.

- Zu Beginn des St\u00fcckes schwebt eine Schauspielerin an einem Klettergurt befestigt in der Luft.

- Es gibt blendende Lichter und Taschenlampen, schwaches Licht und Dunkelheit.

- Es werden Videos auf die hintere Wand der B\u00fchne projiziert. Manchmal ist das Video auch auf den Gesichtern der Schauspieler*innen zu sehen.

- Es gibt eingespielte Musik und Tonaufnahmen.

- Die Schauspieler*innen verschwinden hinter einer Rampe auf der B\u00fchne und kommen pl\u00f6tzlich wieder hervor. Teilweise treten sie in neuen Kost\u00fcmen auf.

- Die Schauspieler*innen zeigen gro\u00dfe Gef\u00fchle: Sie schreien und rufen laut und unerwartet.

- Ein Schauspieler spricht an einer Stelle im St\u00fcck eine Person im Publikum direkt an.

I like standing here, this is my favourite place, the turtle thinks to itself and sniffs at a flower. But what happens when a new friend shows up, but has a bad feeling about the place and would rather stand somewhere else? Do you then leave the place you have come to love? Do you insist that the other person come to me, no matter the cost? Or do we meet in the middle, unfamiliar to both of us?
With just a few words, the Canadian-American animator, illustrator and writer Jon Klassen has created a whole little universe of feelings around friendship in his new picture book \"Out of the Blue\" \/ \"The Rock from the Sky\", full of fears and reservations, suspicions and wishes.

His picture book \"The Rock from the Sky\" is about searching for the right place, also in life, about friendship and destiny: No sooner has the armadillo lured the tortoise away from its favourite spot than a rock falls from the sky right where it was standing. There is not much talk about it, just as there is little dialogue at all, not even with the snake that joins them. But there are plenty of stories between the lines, full of longing, uncertainty and hope.

Patricija Katica Broni\u0107 has developed a playful realisation of the picture book for the stage as her first directorial work at JES.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

- There are rapid changes of light, flickering and pulsating light as well as coloured light. A disco ball hangs from the ceiling, sometimes creating small spotlights in the room.

- At the end of the piece, it suddenly goes completely dark for a brief moment. This is how the play ends. The light goes back on and the audience is allowed to clap. The actors take a bow.

The following moments in the play can be frightening . These moments can be a little scary:

1) At one end of the bridge, a large, round stage piece hangs from the stage ceiling. It falls down unexpectedly in the first third of the play. The fall is accompanied by a change of light and sound. A loud, crashing noise is played. The actors are startled.

2) A programmed spotlight slowly descends from the ceiling, the light moves through the room and changes colour. The audience can be briefly dazzled. Tense music is played. An actress reacts with fear, screams and hides in the audience.

3) Two actors jump from the bridge into the audience at the same time. Whoever is sitting in that exact spot could be frightened. The action is signalled in advance by the actors' gestures. Speak to our evening staff if you do not want to sit in this spot.

4) At the end of the play, the programmed spotlight appears a second time. It is suddenly and unexpectedly covered by a green cloth that falls from the ceiling.

Life is not fair. Some people are allowed to stay up late, others can already reach the shelf with the sweets. It's usually the majority who decide which game to play. If just a few group members misbehave, is nobody allowed to have ice cream? And of course: Who is allowed to play with which toy?

The list could go on and on, as could the list of attempts to make everyone equal. How do you get someone to be fair and give up something when so many others give up nothing?

To develop the play, author and director Milan Gather and the JES ensemble first go on a research trip to schools and daycare centres to find out: When do we perceive something as unfair? How do we deal with unequal conditions? And how willing are we ourselves to compromise and show solidarity?<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In the Happy Land, nothing is as it used to be: people are unhappy, they are sad, they are in a bad mood and only care about themselves. Is it because the bird of hope that gives everyone comfort and confidence with its song has disappeared? Jabu, the prince, sets off to find the bird despite his fears and doubts. Fortunately, he gets help from Alva, the lighthouse keeper's daughter, who at least knows how to steer a ship. Together, the two set off on their adventure - accompanied by an invigorating melody.

Together with musicians H\u00eaja Netirk and Carlos Rico, JES develops a light and sensual musical narrative about big questions: How do we want to live together? Do people lose their humanity when they no longer feel confident? Which melody gives you hope?

In the audio description<\/strong> the stage set, the costumes and the visible course of the action are described for people with visual impairments. The descriptions are spoken live during the performance and can be heard by the audience via transmitters with headphones.

For people with visual impairments, we regularly offer screenings with tactile guidance and audio description <\/strong>an.

The tactile tour<\/strong> takes place in the stage area approximately one hour before the performance begins. Here you can feel parts of the stage set, props and costume pieces. The actors introduce themselves and describe themselves. In addition, particularly visual scenes of the production are described.

Vielleicht sind sie gut zu wissen f\u00fcr dich oder jemanden, der mit dir die Vorstellung besucht.
