ABOUT BRIGHT VIEW

Every two years JES hosts the festival Bright View: a showcase for groundbreaking international theatre for young audiences in Stuttgart as well as the platform for the regional theatres working in this field to share their work and develop their artistic and communicatory practise. Workshops and discussions for artists as well as interested citizens of Stuttgart are an essential part of the week of networking and development. The festival programme is - usually - completed with the award ceremony for the Jugendtheaterpreis Baden-Württemberg (youth theatre award for playwrights) and glittering celebrations. The 2020 festival could not take place and will be made up for in 2021 as a hybrid festival. Just one year later - 2022 - there will be the next Bright View.

Schöne Aussicht / Bright View 2021

The 2020 festival, postponed with a heavy heart, will be made up for in 2021. We will host Bright View 2021 from the 6th unit the 13th of June. But as this virus has turned out to be much more resilient then what we hoped for last summer, we’re planing a special edition for this years festival: a hybrid form with live performances at JES and its partner venues FITZ! and Theater Rampe but also the possibility to watch the performances online for all the people who can’t travel to Stuttgart under these circumstances. Also our discourse programme featuring discussions, talks and workshops will be moved to the digital space.

We’re hoping to showcase some of the diversity of aesthetics and subjects in the world of contemporary theatre for young audiences through the 5 international and 7 regional performances. We keep our fingers crossed for families and individual groups of schoolchildren being able to visit the festival and finally experience live theatre again.

We are currently working hard to conclude the festival programme, which we are planning to publish in March.

BRIGHTER VIEWS

Concepts for a theatre of solidarity for young audiences

How can we create theatre for young audiences that practices solidarity on and beyond the stage? Respect our differences and not devalue them? How can we acknowledge our racist (socialization) and counteract it? Which images and narratives do we create to describe the world we live in without reproducing racist and discriminating conditions? How does this affect our artistic work and also the structures of theatre?

The programme will be taking place in the digital space and is aimed at professional artists and anyone who would like to change things and who are willing to deal with their own privileges.

Educational Programme: lectures, talks, workshops - taking place in the digital world.
