Burning City

Content

Thirteen performers take to a long catwalk, where bodies, voices and beats collide. Music – from hip hop and funk to soul and rock – sets the rhythm for the evening, while spoken word, rap and dance tell stories of struggle, joy and survival.
Burning City is a concert, a living manifesto. Sometimes delicate and vulnerable, then again overwhelming with the urgency of activism. Created by Junior Mthombeni and the SOCHA collective, the piece confronts systems of exclusion and transforms the stage into a space of protest, celebration and community.

Burning City turns the pressing questions of who belongs, who owns the space, and whose voices are heard and whose are not, into a multidisciplinary experience. The confrontation turns into a feeling of empowerment that lingers long after leaving the room.
