Discover the theater through play!

At the JES Theater Playground, you can try anything that has to do with theater.

We move and we freeze.
We play fast and sometimes very slowly.
We disguise ourselves, are sometimes loud and sometimes very quiet.
We build, invent and play together.

The Theater Playground is open to all children between the ages of 6 and 8, who are already attending school. There are no performances. Session are every week.

Children from the JES-KITA-Project have priority when registering. Please state the name of the former daycare center when signing up!

How can we bring people of all ages to move their bodies together?
How can we inspire each other and surprise each other?
How can we forget our ages while playing together?

Intergenerational Dance Training is an open and inclusive dance program for all.
With guided exercises and improvisation tasks, we come into a playful and dynamic togetherness.

You can come with your siblings, parents, grandparents or friends.

No previous experience is necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing. We dance barefoot, no shoes or socks.

Welcome to the Philos, the Youth Advisory Council from JES!

We are a group of young people between the ages of 12 and 18, who are passionate about Theater and want to have a say in and be involved in discussions about all things JES.

We love snacks, enjoy good discussions, and age differences play no role in our group. Together we are always looking for new ways for young people to help shape, influence and rethink theater by bringing in their own expertise and perspectives to the table. 

Why not become a JES-Philo yourself?

What we do:
Meet weekly to discuss theater and changes that can be made.
Watch theater performances and exchange our ideas.
Get creative, play games, and develop and do artistic projects.
Connect and meet with youth groups representing other theaters in Baden-Württemberg.
Advise JES and explore more ways to get young people involved in theater.
Visit theater festivals.
Bring people together and encourage exchange.
Help shape CLUBTOPIA – the theater club festival at JES – and come up with ideas for its program.

What’s great about it:
We’re invited to many things (for example: with the JES Club Card, you can see theater performances at JES for free for an entire year).
You get to discover new things and have diverse experiences.
Your ideas matter, and you actively shape the theater with them.
You get to meeting new people.

What we have planned so far in 2026 and 2027:
Watch a lot of theater performances – at JES and in other venues – and exchanging our ideas about them.
Help organise and take part in the Theater Clubs’ Christmas party.
Accompanying and participating in the development of the piece “Nach uns die Sintflut” (After us the flood), directed by Lee Mülders, at JES, all the way from the concept rehearsal to the premiere.
Come up with an idea for a project using our new Kesselkarre, plan it and bring it to life.
Help shape the program for CLUBTOPIA – Young Theater Festival and welcome visitors as hosts at JES.

From mid-January to mid-April, JES will host an inclusive Theater Club.
Inclusive means that people with and without disabilities make theater together.

The Theater Club takes place in cooperation with and with support from Offene Hilfen Stuttgart.

The short theater club is open to everyone ages 16 to 20 who want to experience acting and theater together with others. We improvise, step into different roles and get creative together. As a group, we discover what interests us and what we want to explore.

No previous theater experience is necessary.

We want to:
Get to know each other as a group
Play theater games
Talk about what matters to you
Make music and dance together
Develop a short presentation based on our ideas

Using the ideas we come up with, we will create a short presentation for parents, friends, and anyone interested. The performance will take place on 13 February 2027 at 12:00 pm.

No previous experience is necessary.

Get ready for a week full of theater and dance – this time at PLEKS, a community and cultural centre in Fellbach!

We will experiment with ideas that we can bring to life together on stage.

No previous experience is needed – just enthusiasm and motivation!

A performance project in a public space
During the Pentecost holidays

With the Kesselkarre, JES leaves its building in the city center to explore public spaces!
We will visit everyday places around the city and draw inspiration from the locations, our encounters and the people passing by.

How many things happen at the same time in a city?
And which of them could become a theater scene?

Over the course of these two weeks, we will explore these questions together.

“Das ist doch Quatsch!” (That’s just nonsense!”)
We’ve all heard this phrase before.
But what does it really mean?

In Theater Club 1 we want to explore this question through play. We act, experiment, investigate and questions others and of ourselves.

Until maybe, we find out, what all this nonsense is even about!

At the end, we will present our own theater production for an audience as part of CLUBTOPIA –
Young Theater Festival 2027 at JES.

Theater Club 2 is for everyone aged 12 to 15 who wants to discover theater and try acting. We improvise, invent things, play different games, and come up with stories and texts. We explore what interests us as a group, what matters to us collectively, and what we feel we really need to talk about. We turn these ideas into our own theater production and perform it at CLUBTOPIA – Young Theater Festival 2027 at JES.

Wednesdays, 6:00–8:00 pm at JES
Trial sessions: 21 October and 4 November 2026

Start: 11 November 2026

Performances: Between May and July 2027

Inspired by two productions that are being developed at JES during the 2026/27 season – “Und nach uns die Sintflut” (After Us, the Flood), directed by Lee Mülders, and “Eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Neuen Wehrdienst” (An Exploration of the New Military Service), directed by Sefa Küskü – we will explore the following questions together:

How do bodies, words and images tell stories?
How can an empty space become a new world?
How can topics such as the future and responsibility be explored on stage?

To find out, we watch theater, discuss what we see, work with performance-based formats, collect ideas and experiment with text, bodies and space – ultimately developing our own production.

You don’t need any previous theater experience. All you need is curiosity, a willingness to try new things and the courage to share your perspective.

Residency for Young Artists

A space at JES for your artistic project ideas!

The facts:
Are you between 14 and 23 years young?
Do you have an idea for an artistic project but no space, no budget or not even a team yet?
Would you like advice and support from experts, while still having plenty of freedom to explore, develop and experiment with your own idea?
Are you looking for more people to join your artistic project?

Here’s what we offer
Rehearsal space and a stage
Three weeks of rehearsal time to develop and experiment with your ideas
A project budget of approximately €4,000
Support and guidance from a professional theater-maker at JES
Technical and production support (if needed)
An artistic workshop with an expert of your choice
Two performances for an audience at JES

Timeframe:
Introductory weekend: October 2026 (by appointment)
Rehearsal period: Between November 2026 and February 2027

During this period, you will have three flexible weeks to develop and rehearse your idea. Whether you prefer to work for three consecutive weeks or spread your rehearsals across individual days and weekends is something we will work out together, finding the approach that best suits you and your project.
