CLUBTOPIA. Young Theater Festival
June 2026
The JES is committed to the children’s right to cultural participation:
Throughout the year, many very different artistic projects are created at JES with children, teenagers and young adults. In addition to the regular play clubs, which have been rehearsing together since the start of the school year, there are dance projects that are created in intensive holiday workshops and performative collaborations in which the interaction between children and adults is questioned and reinvented. They can all be seen at Clubtopia 2026: in the second edition of the new festival at JES, we are giving the stage to young theatre makers.

Want to discover theatre playfully?
In the JES Theatre Playground you can try out everything to do with theatre. For example, we will move around the space and suddenly freeze. We will act quickly or very slowly. We will transform ourselves. Sometimes we’ll be loud, sometimes we’ll be quiet. We will build, invent and play together.
The theatre playground is open to all children between the ages of 6 and 8. There is no performance. It takes place every week. Children who want to continue acting or try it out after kindergarten* are very welcome.
Registration starts in September 2025 via clubs@jes-stuttgart.de
*Children from the JES kindergarten project are prioritised when registering. Please indicate the former kindergarten and theatre educator when registering.
Solidarity participation fee: pay what you can afford.
Participation fee for 3 months: €25 / €50 or €75 (includes JES club card for 3 months of free theatre performances at JES)

Start: October 7th 2025
Final rehearsals and performances: June 22nd to 27th 2026
This acting club is for anyone aged between 12 and 15 who wants to learn about theatre and try their hand at acting. We will improvise and invent, play different games and come up with stories and texts. We will find out what interests us as a group, what concerns us collectively and what we urgently need to talk about. We will then use this to create our own play. In June 2026, there will be several performances of our joint work at the ‘Clubtopia. Young Theatre Festival’.
Registration starts in September via clubs@jes-stuttgart.de
Participation fee: €80.00 (includes JES club membership card and free theatre performances at JES)

Dienstags von 6 to 8 pm Uhr im JES
Start: october 7th 2025
Final rehearsals and performances: June 22nd to 27th 2026
Do you want to take to the stage – with whatever is on your mind?
There is no finished play. But there is a beginning!
We will ask questions like: What does responsibility mean – for me, for others, for the world? Where do I take responsibility? Where do I evade responsibility? And what happens when no one takes responsibility?
We search for stories, moments, attitudes…We tell them through text, movement or images, experimenting, rethinking, reinventing.
We tell them through text, movement or images, experimenting, rethinking, reinventing.
The end result will be performed at JES.
You don’t need any theatre experience – just the courage to try something new.

Queer*Town (AT)

A research project in cooperation with UTOPIA Kiosk
Thursdays 6 pm to 8.30 pm, alternating each week between JES and UTOPIA Kiosk
Start: End of September 2025
Presentation: March 20th-22nd 2026
How can spaces affect identity? What are spaces that are visibly queer? And which spaces are invisibly queer? When is it good to be visible, and when might it be a good idea to become invisible?
Together with the UTOPIA Kiosk, we want to ask ourselves these and other questions. We will engage in conversation with queer actors from the city, exchange ideas, and network. We will experiment with various artistic approaches and create our own queer space, which you will actively help shape. At the end of this project, we will present our results in a room installation at the UTOPIA Kiosk.
For anyone who identifies as queer and is interested in a collaborative artistic project.

Project week: February 14th to February 21st 2026
Start: see Die JES-Philosoph*innen (JES Philosophers)
A project week organised by the JES philosophers!
What do young people want to see in theatre for young audiences? What do they want to experience? Which topics and forms interest them? What have they been missing so far?
For one week, the JES philosophers are given space, advice and financial resources to explore these questions. They will start working together in October 2025 and develop an idea for the project week. They will interview other young people and establish topics, concerns and wishes. They will try things out and develop an artistic, practical and content-related proposal for a new play to be staged at JES in the 2026/27 season.
The results will be presented at JES at the end of the project week, then reflected upon and further developed.
Club der Schaulustigen

Thursdays from 7 pm to 9 pm at JES

Would you like to meet new people and discover Stuttgart’s theatre scene? We will take the time to engage with theatre as an artform, discover new places and talk about theatre together. We will watch opera, plays, performances, dance, puppetry and everything else the performing arts in Stuttgart have to offer. We will meet every week. We will always alternate between watching something and then talking about it. From time to time, we will also act, paint or compare our experiences, or have conversations with the artists.

JES! Kinderrechte
8+ years
Project week: October 27th to 31st 2025
10 am to 2 pm each day
An autumn holiday workshop about your rights as a child.
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, also known as the Convention on the Rights of the Child, is an international human rights agreement that defines the rights of children.
Based on this agreement, we want to explore what this means for your everyday life as children in our city.
What do you experience and what is important to you? What should change and how?
Based on your thoughts, experiences and ideas, we will develop games, perform theatre, draw, do crafts and move and dance.
At the end, our results will be displayed as an installation in the lower foyer of the JES. Our aim is to give children’s rights a permanent place in our theatre.
With Lina Höhne and Larissa Probst
