Matthias Nagel (he/him)

EDUCATION
I was born in Stuttgart in 1991 and studied Media Economics in the bachelor’s programme and Media Management in the Master’s programme at Stuttgart Media University. During my studies, I started to look into how accessibility is possible for me as a blind person in the media sector. Since then, I have been working on digital accessibility and audio description, among other things.
ELSEWHERE
After completing my studies, I was initially responsible for media education projects to strengthen media skills in children and young people, as well as setting up the project centre for inclusion in child and youth work. I have been working as a freelancer in the arts and culture sector for some time now, advising various theatres and museums on their steps towards inclusion with a focus on writing and editing audio descriptions. My clients include the Tempus Fugit Theatre in Lörrach, the Constance Theatre, the State Museum of Natural History in Karlsruhe and Württemberg State Museum. I was also curator of the exhibition Blind Date with Stuttgart at StadtPalais – Museum für Stuttgart.
JES AND I
Since 2023, I have also been supporting JES and, together with my colleagues from HörMal Audiodeskription, realised the audio description for the musical SHAME. From the 2024/25 season, in addition to my freelance projects, I will also have a permanent part-time position at JES in order to make the inclusive processes already initiated at the theatre even more holistic.
