Young Ensemble Stuttgart
JES is a young theatre. It opened in May 2004. JES creates its repertory especially for children and young adults. The performances of our own theatre and the guest performances we invite from other theatres are aimed at an adolescent audience and families. Besides, in the “Theaterwerkstätten” and "Spielclubs" (theatre-workshops) and the education programme JES works with young people. Some productions of JES are developed with young actors under professional conditions.
JES has a small permanent cast of currently four actors. Beyond it, JES works with a varying number of guest actors. Beside the four or five plays that are produced by JES itself, performances with young people and co-productions are enlarging the programme.
The whole ensemble has twenty permanent employees at the moment. Four theatre educators allow us to offer one of Germany’s largest theatre education programmes.
During its first three seasons, JES captivated an audience, which not only watches the performances, but also takes part in the other offers of the theatre such as workshops. Since its foundation, JES organizes the “Stuttgarter Schülertheatertage drama” (pupil’s-theatre-days). The international engagement of JES is reflected in its various co-productions with theatres of other countries and in the international festival for young theatre “Schöne Aussicht” (“Bright View”), which is organized in association with the “Baden-Württembergischen Kinder- und Jugendtheatertagen” (festival of theatre for children and young people in Baden-Württemberg).
